I have no riding experience, is that a problem?
No, we cater for people of all abilities from no experience at all to very experienced riders.
Is there a height and weight limit?
Yes maximum weight 85 kgs and maximum height 1.95cm or 6ft 4in.
Do you provide hats and boots?
Yes we provide riding hats and boots although wellington boots are acceptable.
Is the Ashdown Forest Riding Centre licensed and insured?
Yes, the Ashdown Forest Riding Centre is licensed by the Wealden district council and insured by Howden insurance.
Is the hacking direct on the forest?
Does the Ashdown Forest Riding Centre have an indoor or outdoor arena?
We only have an 60 x 20 outdoor arena with floodlights.
Do you offer both private and group lessons?
We offer both. Our group lessons don’t have more than 4 riders per group and all are of the same ability.
What method of payment does the AFRC accept?
We only accept cash on the day or Bacs in advance. All bookings require a 50% deposit paid by Bacs in advance.
What is the Ashdown Forest Riding Centre’s cancellation policy?
We require 24 hours’ notice if you wish to cancel your booking in which case your 50% deposit will be refunded in full. If WE cancel on the day of your booking due to adverse weather conditions, you are also entitled to a full refund but our preference is to re-book for another day. If YOU cancel on the day of your booking, we require a minimum of 3 hours’ notice as horses will be allocated and prepared especially for you. In these cases we would retain your deposit, however please do discuss with us as unavoidable situations arise and so we would prefer to re-book for another day.
Can one ride under any weather conditions?
No, in case of very bad weather riding is cancelled.
What is the minimum age for children?
4 years old.
What riding related activities does the Ashdown Forest Riding Centre offer?
We offer lessons, hacking on Ashdown Forest, pony club activities for children and beach rides at camber sands. For our regular riders there is a very popular loan /share scheme and the possibility to take part in equestrian competitions.
